Stay Alert: Protect Yourself from Scams

Notice: 1st edition

At Make in Africa, your safety and trust matter to us. Unfortunately, our name is sometimes misused in fraudulent emails, text messages and social media posts claiming to represent us.

To help you identify and avoid scams, please note:

  • Genuine emails from us come only from our official domain, which you can confirm through the contact form on this site.
  • Be wary of messages sent from generic email services such as Yahoo, Gmail or Hotmail, or from odd-looking addresses that imitate a chamber of commerce or a jobs site.

If you receive any doubtful message, please contact us directly to verify it. Stay alert and guard your personal information.

Fraudsters may create fake social media profiles, including on LinkedIn, impersonating our founders or other people connected to the movement. These imposters often send messages falsely claiming to be from “Make in Africa” to ask for payments or sensitive information.

Common tactics include:

  • False Offers: Messages promoting memberships, places at the Summit, jobs, or awards and grants that we have never offered.
  • Requests for Personal Details: Fraudsters may ask for sensitive information such as passport or bank details.
  • Payment Demands: Scammers may ask for payment through money transfer services, posing as official representatives.

Please take care, and check any suspicious message with us before you reply or share personal information. Stay alert and protect yourself from fraud.

Important Points to Remember:

Genuine Communications

All official emails from Make in Africa come from our official domain only. If a message claims to be from us but comes from anywhere else, treat it with suspicion and check with us first.

Summit Participation

Places at the Summit are confirmed only through the registration process on this site. We never solicit participation through unsolicited messages or third-party platforms.

Employment Offers

Genuine opportunities are posted on our official website. We do not advertise openings through unsolicited emails or social media, and we never ask for payment through any service, including money transfer services or mobile money.

No Awards or Grants via Messages

We do not hand out awards, grants or similar prizes through emails or text messages. Any such claim should be treated as false and ignored.

Report Suspicious Communications

If you receive any suspicious email, text or social media message claiming to be from Make in Africa, do not respond. Instead:

If you have already shared personal information or payment details in reply to a suspicious message:

  • Contact your bank or card provider immediately to report possible fraud or identity theft.

Make in Africa accepts no responsibility for costs, losses or damages that result from fraudulent messages falsely linked to our movement. Stay alert and report any concern promptly.
