Board of Directors

Steering Make in Africa's Course

Make in Africa is a movement to build more of what Africa uses and sells, in Africa. The Board of Directors sets its direction. It will bring together experienced people from business, government and civil society across the continent, who care about industry, jobs and fair terms of trade. Appointments will be announced.

Leadership Rooted in African Industry

The Board guides our priorities, from industrial infrastructure and local processing to skills and fair finance. Its task is to keep the movement honest and focused, so that Africa becomes a place where investors, producers and innovators build, not only extract.

The Roles That Will Shape the Movement

Chairperson

Industrial Infrastructure and Logistics

The Chairperson convenes the Board and speaks for the movement. We look for a leader with deep experience in industrial infrastructure, ports, corridors and logistics, who understands what it takes to move finished goods across African borders. Nominations are invited.

Our aim is an Africa where roads, rail, ports and power connect producers to markets, and where regional value chains work across the continent.

Vice Chairperson

Energy and Industrial Power

The Vice Chairperson supports the Chair and takes the lead on energy. Industry cannot grow without reliable, affordable power, so we seek a leader with experience in renewable and grid energy. Nominations are invited.

Our aim is for Africa to power its own factories, and to process its own minerals before they leave the continent.

Board Member

Technology and Innovation

This seat is for a leader in technology, digital trade and research. They will advise on how African makers can access technology, share licences fairly and build local capability. Nominations are invited.

Our aim is for African engineers and start-ups to build and own the technology, not only buy it.

Board Member

Agribusiness and Food Processing

This seat is for an expert in agribusiness and food processing. Too much of Africa's harvest leaves the continent unprocessed. This member will advise on moving value addition closer to the farm, to the benefit of farmers and local industry. Nominations are invited.

Our aim is for Africa to feed itself and sell processed food to the world, with farmers sharing in the gains.

Board Member

Finance and Investment

This seat is for a leader in banking, development finance and investment. They will advise on fairly priced long-term finance, guarantees and the fight against illicit financial outflows. Nominations are invited.

Our aim is long-term capital that builds African factories and processing plants, on terms that reflect real risk rather than inherited prejudice.

Expertise We Also Seek

Alongside these core roles, Make in Africa seeks specialist expertise from industries that matter to the continent’s industrial future:

Mining and Beneficiation Specialist

Africa holds minerals the world needs, and too many leave as raw ore. A specialist in mining and beneficiation can help the movement make the case for processing and refining on the continent.

Manufacturing and Export Specialist

A leader in industrial manufacturing and export strategy can advise on how African producers meet standards, win buyers and sell finished goods across the continent and abroad, with fair access to partner markets.

Health and Pharmaceuticals Innovator

Africa needs more regional pharmaceutical and medical manufacturing. An expert in health and life sciences can help build the case for it and link African producers with partners who share technology.

Education and Skills Expert

An expert in education and skills can lead work on vocational training, research partnerships and apprenticeships, so that Africa's young workforce is ready to make and run modern industry.

Our Collective Mission: Africa Builds, the World Benefits

The Board is united by one mission: to help Africa build more of what it uses and sells. Through shared leadership and clear direction, we aim to see growth that benefits every African country and fair partnerships with the world.

Core Areas of Focus:

  • Industrial Infrastructure & Logistics: Backing the roads, rail, ports and power that connect African producers to markets.
  • Energy for Industry: Pushing for reliable, affordable power so that African factories can compete.
  • Technology & Innovation: Supporting an environment where African makers can access and own technology.
  • Agribusiness & Food Processing: Moving value addition closer to the farm for local and global markets.
  • Finance & Investment: Pressing for fair long-term finance, and for an end to illicit financial outflows.
