AI Governance Alliance
The AI Governance Alliance leads Make in Africa’s work on the responsible development of artificial intelligence across the continent. Its mandate is to ensure AI is built, owned and governed in ways that serve African economies, not only imported and applied. Working groups draw expertise from cybersecurity, financial systems, healthcare and manufacturing.
Our Mission
The Alliance advances inclusive, ethical AI practices that help Africa make more of what it uses. It works with the African Union, regional bodies and partners abroad to put African data, skills and standards at the table.
Our Work
The Alliance’s core workstreams cover responsible AI adoption, resilient governance and regulation, and safe, reliable systems. Each is built on standards that hold across African markets, so firms can scale across borders under the AfCFTA.
Our Value
- Africa at the Table
African engineers, regulators and founders help set the rules, not just follow them. - Outcomes Over Discussion
Position papers and practical tools are the Alliance’s output, built for use, not just publication. - Regulation Ahead of the Problem
Public-private collaboration keeps rules ahead of AI’s pace of change, rather than reacting to it.
Join Us in Shaping African AI Policy
The Alliance depends on real participation from governments, researchers and companies. Join a working group and help set the direction.
