About Make in Africa

Building in Africa, for Africa

Our Mission and Vision

A Movement to Make More at Home

Make in Africa is a pan-African movement. Africa has the resources, the young people and now a single continental market, yet it mostly ships raw materials out and buys finished goods in. We exist to change that, working year-round and gathering each year at the Make in Africa Global Summit.

Our Mission

to help Africa build more of what it uses and sells, in Africa. We bring together governments, investors, companies and young people, and we press our partners for the fair finance, technology and market access that local production needs.

Our Vision

An Africa That Makes

We envision a continent that processes its own minerals, crops and energy, trades finished goods across the African Continental Free Trade Area, and sells to the world on fair terms. Jobs, technology and value stay in Africa, and the benefits reach ordinary people, not only the largest companies.

Why Make in Africa?

Value Is Made Elsewhere

Africa is about 2% of global manufacturing output. Colonial-era extraction and unequal trade rules helped build industrial wealth elsewhere, and today's tariffs, standards and credit terms still keep processing offshore. We say this plainly. We then ask the rich economies to give back and help build, and we ask Africa to hold itself to account.

Our Approach

Partnership, Discipline and Delivery

Our approach rests on three principles:

  1. Partnership: We invite governments, businesses and partner economies to work with Africa on fair terms, and we say what fair terms look like.

  2. Discipline: Africa owes itself good governance, more trade among its own countries, honest standards and delivery on its promises.

  3. Accountability: We keep score and publish who delivers, whether African governments, partner countries or companies.
