Understanding Make in Africa
Make in Africa is a pan-African movement to build more of what Africa uses and sells, in Africa. Its flagship event, the Make in Africa Global Summit, opens in Sandton, Johannesburg, in January 2027. You may have questions about who we are, how to take part and what we do. This page gives clear answers.

Make in Africa is a pan-African movement, active year-round, to build more of what Africa uses and sells, in Africa. We bring together business, government and civil society to push for fair finance, fair trade terms and real delivery.

The Make in Africa Global Summit (MIAGS) is the movement’s annual flagship event. The inaugural edition takes place in January 2027 in Sandton, Johannesburg. The movement works all year, while the Summit is where it meets, deals and reports.

Make in Africa was conceived by like-minded people in Sydney, and its operations office is in Johannesburg. We work in partnership with GSEF and WSSH Australia, who are partners and not the organisers.

Governments, companies, investors, institutions and individuals can take part, in Africa and beyond. We focus on Africa and invite partners from the EU, the G7 and every major economy that trades with Africa to join on fair terms.

Some membership levels are free, and others carry a fee. Please see the current fees on the Join page. Summit access is offered to members at member rates, with details shared closer to the event.

No. Make in Africa is a movement, not a government body or agency. We advise, introduce and advocate, and we do not make laws or speak for any one government.

No. We do not issue visas, certificates of origin or licences, and we do not give legal or tax advice. We guide members and refer them to the authorised body, such as an embassy, customs authority or qualified adviser.

GSEF and WSSH Australia are partners of Make in Africa. They support the movement and the Summit, but they are not the organisers, and Make in Africa is not a forum of any other region.

Members can take a seat in working groups, share expertise, help draft position papers, speak at the Summit and make introductions to investors and buyers. Delivery is scored and published, so members help keep everyone to account.

Write to us through the contact form on this website. Our operations office is in Johannesburg, and Sydney is our founding office. We read every message and reply as soon as we can.
