Building Economic Alliances with Africa’s Partners

Join Make in Africa: Building Fair Alliances

Alliances Built on Fair Terms

Africa has the resources, the young people and now a single continental market. What it needs are alliances that help it make more of what it sells. We build them among African countries, through the AfCFTA and the regional economic communities, and with partners such as the EU, the G7 and every major economy that trades with Africa. Partnership, not charity: terms that are fair to both sides.

Alliances Within Africa

Trade With Each Other

A continental market only works if Africans trade with Africans. We back the AfCFTA, work with ECOWAS, SADC, EAC and COMESA, and push for aligned standards and simpler borders so that regional value chains can form. We also ask African governments to keep their side of the bargain and deliver.

Finance on Fair Terms

Capital That Is Patient and Fairly Priced

Too often the cost of borrowing in Africa reflects how risk is priced from outside, not what projects really earn. We ask partners for long-term finance, guarantees, and debt relief or swaps that free money for productive investment. Factories and processing plants need capital that waits for them to mature.

Technology Sharing

Licences, Know-How and Joint Research

Technology made elsewhere has helped build wealth elsewhere. A fair alliance shares it: licences on reasonable terms, joint ventures that transfer know-how, and research done with African institutions. We introduce African makers to technology partners and ask partner governments to make sharing easier, not harder.

Market Access

Reward Processing, Do Not Punish It

Tariff escalation makes raw materials cheap to import and finished goods expensive, which keeps processing offshore. Unfair standards do the same. We ask partners to open their markets to processed African goods and to recognise sound African standards, so that value is added where the materials are.

Skills and Research

Invest in People Who Make Things

A factory is only as strong as its engineers, technicians and managers. Alliances should fund technical training, apprenticeships, universities and applied research in Africa, working with African institutions and with bodies such as UNIDO and the UN Economic Commission for Africa, so that skills stay and grow here.

Purchase Agreements

Long-Term Buying Tied to Local Processing

Buyers can give African producers the certainty they need to invest. We ask for long-term purchase agreements linked to local processing, so that a mine, farm or forest feeds a factory next door before it feeds a ship. Fair prices and clear terms protect buyers and makers alike, and we will publish who delivers.

Keeping Score

Alliances That Deliver

Promises are cheap. Make in Africa will keep score and publish who delivers, African governments and partners alike. We also ask for an end to illicit financial outflows, which drain money Africa needs to build. Members take part in working groups, the Summit and the introductions that turn commitments into projects.
