Events and Tourism Framework 2027-2035

Building Africa as a World Destination for Tourism and Events

Africa has rich cultural heritage, diverse landscapes and a growing number of modern venues. This Events and Tourism Framework 2027-2035 is a Make in Africa proposal to help governments and partners use these strengths, and to make Africa a destination for both African and international travellers and a strong location for events.

The Framework aims to use tourism as a driver of inclusive growth, creating jobs and promoting Africa’s culture and natural beauty. Make in Africa hopes to help the continent grow its tourism and events sector while encouraging sustainable and responsible practices, and to keep more of the spending in African hands. It is a proposal, not law.

Vision for 2035

Africa Leading Its Own Tourism and Events Industry

By 2035, this Framework proposes that Africa is a leading destination for tourism and events, with the following shared objectives:

  • Becoming a top choice for African and international travellers, adding to national economic growth.
  • Mobilising investment for tourism and event infrastructure, including eco-tourism, cultural tourism and adventure tourism projects.
  • Making Africa a strong host for conferences, festivals and sporting events, including the Summit.
  • Creating many direct and indirect jobs in tourism and events, supporting inclusive growth and local communities.

Building an ecosystem that encourages sustainable tourism, cleaner practices and balanced regional development.

Mission

Elevating Africa's Tourism and Events Ecosystem

Make in Africa is dedicated to growing African tourism and events by supporting a sustainable, inclusive and investor-friendly environment. This Framework aims to:

  • Promote Africa as a leading travel destination, showing its heritage, natural beauty and modern attractions.
  • Support venues for international events through good infrastructure for MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences and Exhibitions), sports tourism and festivals.
  • Attract private investment in tourism infrastructure and event management through sensible incentives and simpler regulation.
  • Support skills and job creation in tourism and events by training local communities, so growth is shared across regions.
